It reminds me of another puzzle that I was banging my head on last term (courtesy of the systems engineers =P). Explained in my own words, it goes something like this:

I have some mathematical function that I'm going to call X.
Performing X on 632519 produces 2
152783 --> 2
923812 --> 3
748650 --> 5
689017 --> 5

331789 --> ?

Only basic math required. Have fun ;)
(and I assure you, it's a LOT more frustrating in real life... also more fun for the person giving out the problem)
