mmmmm
So, as many of you will know from previous posts or face-to-face rantings and whatnot, I'm currently on my work term up in the far away lands of frigid Ottawa. Kanata, actually. It's something like a 20 highway drive from downtown Ottawa. I live about halfway between the two, and up north a bit (along the river =)), in a region called Nepean. Busing up here sucks. Many have probably heard my busing rants. Transit + Winter = BAD. Transit + Ottawa Winter = .....
I missed my morning bus today (baka >_<), so I had to take an alternate route which requires 2 shakey transfers (as opposed to 1 solid one). Actually, 3 transfers cause I wasn't thinking straight.
-Took one bus out to the main road (which I could have avoided since the bus I transfered to also goes down my street)
-Wait 5 min for next bus
-Get dropped off just in time to watch the connecting bus pass by on the other side of the road
-Wait 15 min for next bus
-Hope toes regain feeling within the 6 minutes it takes to reach the next stop
-Dislike bus drivers who will not allow you to get off at a non-designated stop, even when it's a small residential road and there's only 2 people on the bus
-Decided not to take the last bus, cause it takes an inanely roundabout route (but the only non-rush hour bus that goes south /_\)
-Trudged through unshovelled sidewalk for 20 min
-Lose feeling in toes
-Arrive at work (beat the bus by a good 15 min =P)
Walking became painful at one point :S. And then my toes numbed off, which scared me for a bit, but upon reaching the office and taking off my boots, I realized that my toes had not numbed off, but instead had warmed up sufficiently to no longer feel pain when walking. Also discovered cold burns. But enough of that =)
What do I do at work? I'm a software tester =)
Not the most exciting job around, but the people are fun, the environment is casual (jeans to work? :D), the hours are fairly flexible (or would be if my hours didn't revolve around the bus), and the software is interesting =)
What's the company/software? Working for JSI Telecom. You'll have to do your own research ;)
What's it like in Ottawa? Cold. Apparently I'm well prepared for Calgary now, haha. It hit -20 on monday, and we were all amazed at the warmth :D
What's the house like? Big. Very big. And cold. And in the middle of nowhere. I imagine the place would be very nice in the summer, as it used to be a cottage (and backs onto the river). But they don't heat the front half of the house, and the inner half of the house gets minimal heating. There are heating controls in all the bedrooms though, so I normally crank mine. Except when sleeping, or going off to work. Which leaves me coming home to a frozen room >_<
What do I do in my spare time? The usual... MSN, World of Warcraft, food, sleep. Food can take up a surprising amount of time if you cook from scratch. Most of that time is from the clean-up afterwards though. I like to be very efficient in my pot/plate/utensil useage for that very reason ;)
Why am I writing Q&A style? Gives me an excuse to not be coherent.
Alright, my brain is fried. Anymore questions?
Well then, til next time!
( ...banana bread... banana split... banana medicine... )
