I had high hopes for this pair when they were announced to be aired as anime series. Sadly, both had been a bit of a let down. Ignoring differences in the storylines, the anime seems much duller, and doesn't play on the crossover aspect nearly as much as the manga did. Removing a lot of the crossover cameos also takes a lot of the fun out of both series. A lot of the characters feel very different than their manga counterparts, and often very very different from their original incarnations. They took out the 3 star announcers completely from the Dragonfly Race arc... I was really looking forward to those guys showing up too :(
The animation quality is also disappointing, for Tsubasa Chronicle at least. xxxHOLiC isn't stellar, but at least its style is fitting for the series. At times, Tsubasa Chronicle makes me think I'm watching something from 1995 all over again.
I think my big gripe with these two animes is how they've both lost that light-hearted touch that's present in the manga. Especially this most recent ep of Holic... the music completely killed any humor that might have been left there. Well, at least I've still got the manga to read =P
