Watching H&CII has brought me back to an old question of mine: do people like Nomiya-san really exist? Can a person really be brilliant enough to understand and predict another's thoughts and emotions, and compassionate enough to smile through it all?
It's easy enough to make guesses at what other people are going through, but can one really act on those guesses with the utmost certainty that one's guess is right, and that those actions will not backfire? Is it possible to know, consistantly, what other's are thinking?
It brings to mind something that Orson Scott Card said through his character Ender -- in the moment you truely understand someone, you must also love them (or something along those lines.. the gist of it was that understanding and love are intertwined). I don't at all disagree with that, but it leads me to think that it must be very painful to be a person with such a big heart.
Maybe I've just been reading too much Kay or something, but I often wish I were as brilliant as the characters he creates. To be able to fully predict the people I interact with...ahh, but I'm to crabby and cynical for that =P
